Pricing Factors

What affects the cost of cabinet painting

No two kitchens are the same. Here are the key variables that affect where your project lands within these ranges.

Number of Doors & Drawers

The most significant pricing factor. Each door and drawer front must be individually cleaned, sanded, primed, painted (twice), and reinstalled. More doors = more time.

Cabinet Material

Solid wood and MDF paint beautifully. Thermofoil and laminate require additional prep work and specialized primer for proper adhesion, which adds time and cost.

Existing Finish Condition

Cabinets with heavy grease, failing paint, significant yellowing, or multiple layers of old paint require more prep time. Restoration projects cost more than standard repaints.

Color & Finish Type

Standard neutral colors are included at base price. Bright or deeply saturated colors (yellows, reds, greens) may require an additional coat. Matte, satin, and semi-gloss are all available at the same price.

Two-Tone vs. Single Color

Two-tone projects (e.g., white uppers with a navy island) require additional masking, separate spray sessions, and precise color transitions. Expect a 15–25% premium over single-color projects.

Hardware & Repairs

Basic hardware reinstallation is included. New hardware (pulls, knobs, hinges) is an additional cost based on selections. Minor wood repairs are included; significant damage may require a carpenter.

The Smart Financial Choice

Cabinet painting vs. cabinet replacement

Factor Cabinet Painting Cabinet Replacement
Average Cost (Kitchen) $900 – $5,500 $15,000 – $50,000+

ROI on Home Sale Very high High
Contractor Coordination None required Multiple trades needed
Environmental Impact Minimal — reuses existing High landfill contribution
Warranty 3-year guarantee Varies by manufacturer

Bottom line: cabinet painting wins on almost every metric

As long as your cabinet boxes are structurally sound, painting is the smarter financial decision — delivering dramatic results without the cost, disruption, or timeline of replacement.
